Ive always wondered about this - if the brokers/insurance companies have access to MTO records anyway, why bother asking the person about to be insured when he first got his license? wouldnt just giving out his license number be sufficient as it's "all in there"? also, some brokers/insurers want exact month/dates which, sometimes, is prolly unrealistic already esp if one's been driving for 10,20,30 yrs. I have seen the MTO make errors such as incorrect dates first lic'd on an abstract.case in point - I had a client move here from out west who had a full licence and when moved to ontario the MTO recorded him only being lic'd for 3yrs.the insurance company had to use the 3yrs until the MTO corrected this error showing he was lic'd more than 20.and I've seen the opposite as well. but most likely your friends broker wants the business but is doing his job in searching the best rate for him.ĬOSMIC5 wrote: ↑what ever date first lic'd shows, is what the insurance companies take. maybe your friend can check with MTO and if that's the case, all the better as he gets credit for his previous driving history? i think there's 2 "in house" insurance people in rfd - cosmic and rems (rems helped me in one of my questions in another thread on insurance). Im not an expert in insurance but it seems like if he's a broker, then he shld know what he's doing. Seems like dealhunter and vacuum have similar experiences but anyone else can chime in? Thanks I thought broker might be screwing him (he is not rfd/tech savvy) just to get his business so just wanted to check here on his behalf.

Should he be wary of this broker? Apparently I guess broker considered his previous non Canadian driving experience. He tried to verify this and the broker said that was in his MTO system. To his surprise the broker said, after he already agreed to the insurance quote that he had been driving in Canada since 1978 and he used that date 1978.
